The governing and policy-making body of Red Hill Lutheran School is the school board, which consists of members of Red Hill Lutheran Church who are appointed by and governed under the church board of directors. The primary objective of the school board is to establish policies for the school as a ministry of Red Hill Lutheran Church that will adhere to the mission, vision, purpose and statement of faith as set out in the School Board Policy Manual. The school board exists to establish policy. The school board is also responsible for approving the School’s annual budget before submitting it to the Church Board of Directors and the congregation for approval.
The full board of the School meets the 2nd Tuesday of select months. The board meets in general session first, followed by an executive session, with the exception of August (executive session only). Any current School family is welcome to attend. Parents who would like to bring a question(s) or items of concern to the attention of the board should submit their request(s) in writing prior to the meeting. A request form is attached below. The board will review the request(s) and schedule appropriate action. The school board consists of seven to nine Red Hill Lutheran Church members. The following members are currently serving:

School Board News:
The School Board met in Executive session on Tuesday, August 8, 2017. Meeting topics included a regular report from Dr. Marquardt, a financial report, and the School Board's self-review. The bulk of the meeting was spent in a discussion of the strategic plan for the School. Over the course of the next several months the School Board will update long-range goals related to the general themes of Faith and Spiritual Development, Academics, Staff Development, Marketing, Financial Stability, and Facilities.
School Board Bios (8/2019):
Danalyn Belgen is currently serving her 16th term on the Board and is the Board Chair. Her two children attended RHLS preschool through 8th grade, she also serves as the school representative to the Board of Directors and attends all of their meetings. Prior to her coming to RHL, Danalyn owned and operated the post-secondary educational school and modeling agency, John Robert Powers of Orange.
Mark Colon is currently serving his 5th term on the Board, and both of his children have attended RHLS since kindergarten. Prior to being on the Board, Mark served as a Board Member of Red Hill Lutheran Church. Mark graduated from UC Irvine School of Medicine and did his pediatric residency at CHOC Children’s Hospital. Since residency, he has been a general pediatrician for CHOC.
Carolyn Smith Driscoll is currently serving her 2nd term on the Board. Carolyn’s four children all attended or are currently attending RHLS. Carolyn volunteers her time for a number of non-profits and works full-time as a corporate tax attorney for a large consulting firm.
Peggy Greene is currently serving her 13th term on the Board, and has previously served as the Board’s Chair and Vice Chair. Peggy’s four children all attended RHLS (preschool through 8th). Peggy has served as a Marketing Director for a San Diego law firm as well as held several non-profit positions, which include President of the Tustin Mom’s group, Social Director for the CHOC Glass Slipper Guild, and management of several local fund-raising events.
Claire Markovsky is currently serving her 1st term on the Board, and her two children attend RHLS (preschool and 2nd grade). Claire served on the executive board for the RHLS PTF for the 18/19 school year, as well as on the executive board for the RHLS American Heritage Girls troop. Claire is an Executive Director of Client Services for a video production company in Irvine where she produces TV commercials and corporate videos.
Kari Rigoni is currently serving her 19th term on the Board, and has previously held roles as the Board’s Secretary, Strategic Planner, and Chair. Her four children have all attended RHLS, and her full-time work involves land use and facilities planning. Kari uses her planning skills to assist with various Board planning and organizational efforts, as needed.
Sonja Scott is currently serving her 7th term on the Board, and serves as Secretary of the Board. After attending RHLC with her parents while in college in the late 1970’s, she and her husband, Clint, became members in 1990. Sonja has served in the RHLC Praise Band and Praise Choir, and currently is a part of the Chancel Choir and serves as the Lay Reader Coordinator for the Church. For the past 33 years, she has been employed by Pacific Life Insurance Company, and in her current capacity as Assistant Vice President, Compensation, is responsible for the development and administration of the company’s pay programs.
Jennifer Brenner As a member of RHLC alongside her husband, Dave and their two daughters, Jennifer has faithfully served our Church and School in many capacities over the past decade. Most recently, Jennifer was the Director of Youth and Family Ministry and the Middle School Bible Teacher for three years. Prior to that role, she taught at RHLS for seven years, contributing toward her 25 years in education as a teacher, coach and administrator. She currently teaches full-time at a high school in the heart of Santa Ana and also serves part-time for Lutheran High School of Orange County as an online instructor. Both daughters are graduates and Confirmands of RHL, Class of 2017 and 2019 respectively, with her whole family currently serving RHL in Children's and Middle School Ministry, the Contemporary Worship Team and Ushering. She feels incredibly blessed and grateful to serve on the School Board for this upcoming term.
Ken Hays has been appointed by the Board of Directors as an Ex-Officio to the School Board, and is serving his first year in this role. As a very active member of RHLC, Ken serves on the Facilities Committee and the Red Hill Trust. He also organizes Red Hill’s house-building ministry trips to Mexico, and leads an Usher Team. Previously, Ken has served as congregation President, as Chairman of the Evangelism and Small Groups Boards, and as a member of the Nominating committee. Ken and his wife have two children, both of whom attended RHLS.
