School Board

The RHLS School Board is the governing and policy-making body of Red Hill Lutheran School.  The School Board consists of members of Red Hill Lutheran Church who are appointed by and governed under the Church Board of Directors. 

 

Purpose:

The primary objective of the School Board is to establish policies for the school, as a ministry of Red Hill Lutheran Church, which will adhere to the mission, vision, purpose and statement of faith as set forth in the School Board Policy Manual. The School Board exists to establish policy but is not an entity to manage the day-to-day operations of the school. The School Board is also responsible for approving the school’s annual budget before submitting it to the Church Board of Directors and the congregation for approval.

How can I attend a School Board meeting?

Any current RHLS family or current RHLC member is welcome to attend during the General Session. Parents who would like to bring a question or item of concern to the attention of the School Board should submit his/her request in writing prior to the meeting. A request form is attached below. Please email the form to the Secretary (email below). The School Board will review the request and schedule appropriate action.

School Board Bios:

 

Jennifer Morrow has served on the School Board since 2023. Her three children have attended RHLS since 2021. Jennifer and her family are active members of Red Hill Lutheran Church and enjoy participating in Youth and Family Ministry. Jennifer has over 20 years of classroom experience as a teacher, mentor, and leader in professional development. She is passionate about education and looks forward to using her experience to support the RHLS community through her role on the School Board.

 

Sonja Scott has served on the Board as Secretary since the 2013-2014 term. After attending RHLC with her parents while in college in the late 1970’s, she and her husband, Clint, became members in 1990.  Sonja has served in the RHLC Praise Band and Praise Choir, and currently is a part of the Chancel Choir and serves as the Lay Reader Coordinator for the Church.  In late 2023, she joined the RHLC Endowment Committee as Financial Secretary. She retired from her role as Assistant Vice President, Compensation, at Pacific Life Insurance Company in early 2024 after 38 years of service at the company. [email protected]

 

Mark Colon has been on the School Board in the past. Mark and Jennifer have been part of the Redhill Church family for 17 years. Both of their children have attended RHLS since kindergarten. Prior to joining the Board, Mark was a Board Member of Red Hill Lutheran Church. Mark graduated from UC Irvine School of Medicine and completed his pediatric residency at CHOC Children’s Hospital, where he has been a general pediatrician since residency.

 

Alexander Kitano has served on the School Board since 2020. A lifelong member of Red Hill Lutheran Church, Alexander was both baptized and confirmed at RHLC and has been part of the community for more than 20 years. An RHLS alumnus, he went on to attend Orange Lutheran High School and later earned his bachelor's degrees from Concordia University Irvine.  Professionally, Alexander serves as a Senior Operations Manager for an international floor and wall tile distribution company, where he focuses on optimization, process improvement, rollouts, and training. Outside of work, he enjoys photography through his business, Kitano Photography, and is an active ice hockey official at the collegiate level, where he also trains and mentors young officials. Alexander is grateful for the opportunity to give back to the school and church that helped shape his faith and education. Guided by the truth that we are saved by grace through faith, he is honored to serve the RHLS community through his role on the School Board. 

 

Cathy Anderson My family and I have been members of Red Hill since 1977, and both children attended Red Hill Lutheran School during their elementary years. During four of those years, I served on the School Board. I have been a member of the Women’s Circle Bible studies and most recently, have served on the Women’s Council. I presently serve on the church board and am an usher. Before retiring in 2017, I was a Resource Teacher for Tustin Unified for 23 years.

 

Zelda de Beer Zelda has served on the Red Hill Lutheran School Board since 2026. Her family has been members of Red Hill Lutheran Church and School since 2018, when they relocated from South Africa to Tustin, CA. Both of her daughters attend Red Hill Lutheran School. Red Hill has been an important part of their family's transition and has helped them grow in their faith while building wonderful relationships within the church and school community. Zelda and her family also enjoy volunteering as part of the church's food preparation team. In 2005 she graduated from the University of Pretoria (South Africa) and in 2008 she started her own bridal business. Zelda is grateful for the opportunity to serve and give back to a community that has given her family so much. She hopes to bring an objective, thoughtful, and practical perspective to the School Board.
