4th Grade Whale Watching: Ocean Institute
March 31st, 2026

Our 4th graders are heading to the Ocean Institute in Dana Point for an unforgettable day of hands-on learning! On Tuesday, March 31, 2026, students will depart from RHLS at 8:30 a.m. and return by 12:15 p.m. The cost is $37 per student. Students should wear their RHLS Spirit Shirt with jeans and a sweatshirt (see teacher email for details). Lunch will be back on campus after the trip. This exciting experience will give students the opportunity to explore marine science in a unique coastal setting, making classroom learning come alive!

Inspiring Learning Experiences Led by Exceptional Teachers

The Institute offers a truly unique environment for exploration and discovery. With state-of-the-art teaching labs, the spectacular Maddie James Seaside Learning Center, a historic tall ship, and an oceanographic research vessel, students are immersed in hands-on learning unlike anywhere else.

Our field trip programs—ranging from one-hour science labs to overnight adventures—are designed to spark curiosity, ignite a passion for discovery, and inspire lifelong learning. Each experience fosters STEAM exploration, promotes critical thinking, and provides life-changing opportunities for students to engage with the world around them.

As the cornerstone of our mission, education remains at the heart of everything we do. All programs align with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), ensuring students not only learn, but also grow as thinkers, explorers, and problem solvers.
