The curriculum
is comprised of a variety of leading publishers approved by the
state of California that provide students with an exciting and
comprehensive
scope and sequence that meet the Content Standards.
Thematic units that emphasize meaningful hands-on activities
are important components of the curriculum.
In
addition,
effective communication skills in the areas of speaking and writing
are a major emphasis. Our primary grades (K-2) focus on phonemic
awareness as a key element in learning to read. All
subjects are taught from a Christian perspective and are integrated
with
Biblical
truths and principles. Instruction emphasizes exploration and
application to real-life experiences.
In addition to the core classes
of Math, History/Social Studies, Science,
and Language Arts/Reading, we also offer the following Specialty
Classes:
• Computer Science: Our new,
extensive computer lab hosting 24 networked computers provides
each student with the opportunity for hands-on
learning instruction. Multi-media production and the application of a variety
of leading software are emphasized.
• P.E.: Physical fitness
and skill development are emphasized along with group games,
cooperation, and good sportsmanship. Students in Grades
1-8 participate in the Presidential Physical Fitness Program.
• Music: Music is an important
component in our curriculum. Music theory and appreciation and
the development of voice and singing confidence
are emphasized in age-appropriate classes. Opportunities for
students to perform are offered at chapel and special school
events. Students
in Middles School have the option to select Handbells and Band
as elective classes.
• Visual and Performing Arts: Coordinated
with the P.E. and Music Departments and emphasizing the development of coordination
and gross motor skills,
students learn how to express themselves through physical movement,
theater, and drama. All students will participate in dance, music,
theatre, and the visual arts as performers and creators.
• Middle School Electives: Middle
School students have the opportunity to individualize their schedule
by selecting various courses that include
Handbells, Band, Competitive Cheerleading, Spanish, and Teacher’s
Assistant. With input from the teachers, the Principal will make the
final decision regarding class placement. Grade point average, Citizenship
grades, and grade level “seniority” will be taken into
consideration when assigning classes. Parent approval by signature
for elective selections is required. Elective choices are an annual
commitment.
